Twittering My Death Knight

Image representing Twitter as depicted in Crun...So I've decided to twitter (I'm researching it for work, ha ha) my death knight. Unfortunately I'm kinda late to the "game" as my DK is now level 80. But it could be interesting to see how he progresses.

So you can follow my DK here: http://twitter.com/katherus

I'm on Kargath and the character is alliance - Katherus.

Here's where I am now:
Katherus is a Night Elf Death Knight. I've specced him as a Blood Tank (I was Blood DPS while leveling and loved the blood spec way too much to be a frost tank). I've hit level 80 about a week ago.

The last week I spent skilling my Blacksmithing and Mining. I have now maxed out Mining (woot Titanium nodes). Blacksmithing is at 449, just need that one last point.

The remaining money I spent was on creating the Titansteel Destroyer (love it). I might try to make another one and sell it. It goes for about 5k gold on my server.

So my plans for the DK are as follows:
Farm Time-Lost Proto-Drake
Farm Varygosa
Max out 2H Maces (close), 2H Sword and unarmed (get that four weapon at 400 achievement)
Get my reputation up with Sons of Hodir, Argent Crusade and Wyrmcrest.
Fix my Internet connection (this should really be 1 as I get disconnected every 10 minutes it seems).

So check out his progress at: http://twitter.com/katherus

WoW: Gaming Accessories

So apparently Steel Series bought out Ideazon. Ideazon makes the infamous Z-Board with interchangeable keysets depending on what game you're playing. The Steel Series web site however has been down all weekend and Blizz even removed the link from the main Warcraft page as apparently folks were complaining. The site was finally up this morning and I got a chance to look at the new products. I was not impressed. The new keyset doesn't appear to have anything different on it than the Burning Crusade one. And the mousepad is just a waste of money in my opinion (give me a break about the surface that a mouse glides over). I do like the mouse though. And I need a new one because wireless mice eat through AA batteries like no one's business.

WoW: 4th Anniversary

World of WarcraftWell World of Warcraft's four year anniversary was on Sunday and anyone that logged in received a special achievement (I still don't know what these are going to be used for). Apparently some people also got a special pet the Baby Blizzard Bear. It is a small bear cub (shocking) that is also white... like a blizzard. Kinda neat. I'm not sure if this was only for those who have had an account for four years or was also given to anyone that was logged on. I'd like to think it is only for those that have had accounts for as long as the game has been out... we've paid enough!

New WoW Commercials

It's true! I woke up this morning to find two new World of Warcraft commercials. One featuring Ozzy Osbourne and one with Steven Van Sandt. Admittedly, the Van Sandt isn't that great. Both after the jump.

Xobni: Here I Come

Image representing Xobni as depicted in CrunchBaseI just started playing around with Xobni last night on my home computer and fell absolutely in love with it. It is awesome. I always lose emails and have to search for them. Outlook search is horribly slow, but with Xobni the search was fast (I sound like an infomercial). I also like the Xobni panel that lets you see info about the contact from Facebook, Hoovers, LinkedIn and so on. It's really quite a neat tool. Considering I have to use Outlook for work and have it on my desktop at home, its the perfect combination. Demo video after the jump.

Weekend Players

Stephenie Meyer's EclipseSorry it's been so long. Things have finally quieted down and I do have a few new items here, including Eclipse and Baby Mama.

Eclipse - The third book in Stephanie Meyer's series. I really enjoyed this one so much more than the first two. There is a lot more action, but there is a lot more mushy love boring drawn out scenes. But I guess that is for the target audience. Overall, I'm still enjoying the series, but I'm still not sure if I will like the movie when it comes out on Friday, although I'm sure I will still go see it.

Baby Mama - I love Tina Fey and I'm a big fan of 30 Rock and her portrayal of Sarah Palin. But I did not enjoy Baby Mama. It had its funny moments and it was okay. But I found the plot just way to simple and obvious. So if you like her, I'd say rent it. But I definitely wouldn't buy it.

WoW: WOTLK NYC Best Buy Release Party

Wrath of the lich kingI just got back from lunch and walked by the Best Buy on 44th and 5th, since its right near my office, so see what the line was like for the Wrath of the Lich King release. There was maybe 10 people in line. However, it looked like Blizzard and Best Buy were preparing for a lot more. There also appeared within the store to be a stage with chairs setup, so potentially doing a Q&A later or something along those lines. Apparently there will be some World of Warcraft game developers there along with the Blizzard president and some blood elves (I hope they are as hot in person) scouting the line looking for alliance and horde members (whatever that means). I'd expect the line to really pickup around 6pm as people get out of work. I didn't count how many copies I could see through the window, but there was a mountain of collector's editions.

Taking the week off

Hey everyone, just wanted to apologize for my lack of posts. My best friend's mother died last Thursday and I've just been running around trying to help him as he is really alone in this. So this week I'm staying with him to help him out. Hopefully I'll get some posts up soon though. WoW Expansion comes out tonight. I may go to the Best Buy here in NYC for the event. Not entirely sure yet though, depends on how long the line is.

Did Obama Help CA Prop 8 Pass?

From Telegraph: "Around 70 per cent of the African-American voters who overwhelmingly backed Mr Obama also approved Proposition 8, helping pass the controversial ballot measure despite a small majority of whites voting against the ban on same-sex unions. Hispanic and Asian voters were split on the issue." More after the jump.

I don't want to point fingers, but I'm going to. In 2004 the theory was that the Bush supporters came out and voted against same-sex marriage. Hence why many of those amendments passed (although there are some that say the reverse effect existed, they came to vote for the amendment and voted for Bush as well and hence he was elected). Whichever you believe happened is fine, the point is that in 2008, California's black voter turnout jumped 10 percent. Exit polling shows 70 percent of those voters, also voted in favor of limiting marriage to one-man and one-woman.

Now the question is what these numbers come down to. Would this be enough votes in favor of Prop 8 to cause it to pass? I don't know. But I think once all the votes are in, it would be very interesting to see if we can determine if this was the case.

Election 2008: Saddest Day in History

So I've been holding off on writing about the election until I felt like it. I finally feel like it. Obama won. Great, good for him. It's no doubt a historical time. I didn't vote for him and I personally think he is way too liberal. I did vote for Bob Barr (here in NY it really didn't matter who I voted for, Obama was set to win it). Anyway, now that Obama has won and four more discriminatory amendments passed across the country, we have to ask ourselves... now what?

I was leveling my pally last night in WoW and had the unfortunate pleasure of reading trade chat. This was filled with comments like, "now that obama won global warming has already stopped;" "the troops are already on their way home;" and other idiotic beliefs.

But I digress. Why did McCain lose? Because Bush is viewed as the leader of the Republican party and with his low approval rating, the voters took it out on McCain. Fine. Over it.

Then CA, FL, AR and AZ pass anti-gay Constitutional amendments! Coincidentally, CA and FL went to Obama. So it just goes to show that not all Democrats are for equality. If anything, I think this is a huge sign for Obama that any effort to provide equality in marriage will be looked down upon by those that voted for him.

Now there are two paths I'd like to go here. 1. What the GOP needs to do now. 2. What the gay community needs to do now.

1. What the GOP needs to do now. Return to the party of Lincoln! Stop the big government, over spending, power hungry party. Return to your principles. Michigan GOP Chairman Saul Anuzis said it best, "When our party once again adheres to our core values and beliefs, and can again demonstrate to America that we can be trusted on those issues, we will win again." Moderate Republicans have the ability to take the party back and restore it! We need to mobilize and get out there now. There is no clear leader of the party (unless you county Senator Mitch McConnell).

2. What the gay community needs to do now. Now they need to make sure everyone they voted in lives up to their promises. Too many times we elect leaders on a campaign promise and they don't follow through. How many Democrats were elected that promised support for gay rights? Will they deliver? A prime example is Barney Frank (D-MA). Year after year he has support gay rights, himself being gay, and year after year something has caused the various bills to fail. Recently it was the exclusion of transgendered protections in ENDA, which Frank supported. He should be held liable for his support of this exclusion bill. I think we'd all be surprised if we actually monitored all our elected officials and held them to the same standards we voted for them on.
